This problem is related to something in my gnome-2 profile. I removed all of my
gnome preferences (deleted .gnome-2, a bit drastic) but it resolved the problem.
If you could pin-point what files are accessed in the .gnome-2 it would be
useful. If it means I have to delete my gnome profile to get smart to work then
I will do it every time, SMART is fantastic and has made getting
working-software very easy.
Thanks
