Please be a bit more verbose. Which distribution (SUSE?) are you using? Which version of smart? What keyserver times out? To disable the rpm signature checking, which is _not_ recommended, just use: smart config --set rpm-check-signatures=False

when trying to update I get an error after attempting to import a key .. the server times out and smart closes without updating any software
